MongoDB 3.0 and MongoDB Ops Manager Now Generally Available

New Release of Modern Database Combines Best of Relational Technologies with Innovations of NoSQL

NEW YORK and PALO ALTO, Calif. -- March 3, 2015 -- MongoDB today announced the general availability of MongoDB 3.0 and MongoDB Ops Manager. Visit mongodb.com to download the product.

MongoDB 3.0 brings a new and highly flexible storage architecture including the WiredTiger storage engine, acquired by MongoDB in 2014. The new release reduces operational overhead by up to 95 percent, has 7x-10x better write performance, and reduces on-disk database size by up to 80 percent. MongoDB 3.0 and Ops Manager improve time to value and dramatically expand the set of mission-critical applications – such as Internet of Things (IoT), time series data analysis, messaging and fraud detection – that are best suited for MongoDB.

“The development period for MongoDB 3.0 has been the most eventful of my entire career,” said Eliot Horowitz, MongoDB Founder and CTO. “The WiredTiger storage engine and our new management product, Ops Manager, provide capabilities far beyond the original conception of this release. Our users and our partners will be thrilled.”

Early feedback and interest in MongoDB 3.0 has been enthusiastic, as evidenced by a number of customers and community members.

On MongoDB 3.0

“Part of Soundwave's success stems from migrating the original app early from MySQL to MongoDB. MongoDB is not constrained by a rigid schema, so development is much faster and more iterative,” said David Lynch, Principal Engineer at Soundwave. “Now as the app continues to grow in use, using the latest version of MongoDB is key for us. We're seeing significantly better write performance and great compression in testing, which will enable us to easily scale with the demands of our traffic and data volumes while also lowering our production costs.”

“The Sailthru team is excited about what MongoDB 3.0 will do for our massive production deployment," said Jeffrey Berger, Lead Database Administrator at SailThru. "In our tests, the compression factor alone will dramatically improve our hardware utilization, saving us immense amounts of money and time.”

On MongoDB Ops Manager

“Ops Manager makes managing and monitoring MongoDB so simple," said Kris Balakrishnan, Director of Database Engineering at Barnes & Noble. “The features it offers, like deploying new instances and upgrades in just a few clicks, have been on our MongoDB 'Wish List.' We're starting to roll it out now and are already excited by how easy it is going to be to proactively manage and monitor our MongoDB clusters at Barnes & Noble.”

“The new automation features of Ops Manager have blown me away! I have used it to deploy replica sets, which I can now do at the click of a button, rather than dozens of manual steps previously,” said Laurence Moughan, Unix Systems Administration & Infrastructure Services at Aer Lingus. “Reconfiguring running instances is a breeze. The monitoring capabilities give me all the stats I could ever need to proactively manage my MongoDB deployment. Ops Manager will save our operations team many hours. I can't wait to get it into production!”
