MongoDB and Infosys Announce Mainframe Offload Offering to Migrate Business-Critical Applications to Next-Generation Technology
New partnership builds on the success of the application modernization initiative launched by MongoDB and Infosys in December to accelerate digital transformation
New York City, New York – August 31, 2017 – MongoDB, the database for giant ideas, and Infosys (NYSE: INFY), a global leader in consulting, technology, outsourcing and next-generation services, have strengthened their partnership by launching a new mainframe offloading solution to complement their existing application modernization offering. As next-generation technology solutions mature, an increasing number of enterprises are seeking to migrate business critical functions away from legacy technology to increase productivity, reduce cost and streamline operations.
“For decades, mainframes have been used to store business-critical data. However, they are increasingly unable to optimally handle the scale and complexity of modern applications, especially in a cost effective way,” said Dev Ittycheria, President and CEO, MongoDB. “Infosys has been helping the largest enterprises in the world strategically transform their business through application modernization with MongoDB. Our joint mainframe offload solution will further enable enterprises to migrate the data for new, flexible applications off legacy systems while keeping the mainframe utilized for what it was originally designed for.”
MongoDB offers the best of traditional databases as well as the flexibility, scale and performance required to support today’s modern applications. This allows innovators to develop and deploy highly complex applications on MongoDB that meets the needs of the most sophisticated customers. Beyond performance benefits, a key advantage MongoDB has over traditional mainframes is that migration enables enterprises to greatly lower their total cost of ownership. Mainframes are notorious for eating up IT budgets, and the savings that come with offloading to MongoDB open up those resources for enterprises to invest in more innovative initiatives.
By helping enterprises migrate data off of the mainframe and onto MongoDB, Infosys is enabling its customers to bring their data into the modern era and futureproof against a constantly-evolving technology landscape.
“Infosys is focused on helping our clients improve their performance while reducing costs through ‘Mainframe offloading’ which is one of the key modernization initiatives,” said Ravi Kumar S, President and Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Infosys. “Our endeavor is to recreate the success we have seen in accelerating digital transformation for our clients through our earlier partnership with MongoDB, mainframe offloading will bring forth the significant benefits of flexibility, scale and performance.”
This offering builds on a previous partnership the companies announced last December, designed to help enterprises accelerate their digital transformation and application modernization strategies with next-generation database solutions. As part of that announcement, the two companies established a joint innovation lab in Bangalore, India. The lab hosts a dedicated Infosys team of MongoDB experts committed to developing tools and processes to assist Infosys customers in their application modernization.
As digital transformation continues to be a paramount initiative for enterprises in every industry, MongoDB and Infosys joint efforts are an invaluable resource for any modern enterprise or organization.
