A Recap of MUGs: December 2024

The Melbourne MongoDB User Group :australia: hosted a meetup on November 14, 2024, at the Slalom office. David Evans and Nag Chirravuri from Bendigo Bank showcased their ML-powered customer search transformation, while Arun Balasubramanian from Slalom highlighted cost-effective MongoDB solutions for AWS architectures. The evening featured networking, a quiz, and swag, making it a memorable event. Special thanks to Vitaliy Baschlykoff and Slalom for hosting! :tada:

The Kigali MongoDB User Group :rwanda: partnered with GDG Kigali to host a meetup at DevFest Kigali 2024 on November 16th, 2024, at CMU-Africa. Mboh Bless Pearl delivered a talk on leveraging MongoDB for powering AI client applications to a lively audience of 65 attendees. The collaboration showcased MongoDB’s role in Responsible AI and sparked interest in joining the local MongoDB community. Special thanks to the Women in Tech Club at CMU-Africa for organizing this successful event!

Kigali MUG

The MongoDB Manila User Group, led by Seaver and Haifa, hosted an afterparty on November 19th, 2024, at Shangri-la The Fort, following the day-long MongoDB Developer Day Manila. This unique gathering offered participants a relaxed and engaging environment to share ideas, network, and discuss their MongoDB-powered projects. Highlights included a creative icebreaker activity, where attendees exchanged fun facts and aspirations for what they’d love to build with MongoDB. The evening fostered meaningful connections, with senior professionals mentoring students and inspiring future innovations. Kudos to the MUG Leaders for organizing such a memorable event, and to all participants for contributing to the MongoDB Manila community! Looking forward to more fun-filled gatherings ahead.

The Chicago MongoDB User Group, led by Cassiano Bein, hosted a fantastic in-person event on November 20th, 2024, at Grainger’s Merchandise Mart Office. The evening featured a session by Ian Moore and Edgar Gonzalez, platform engineers at Grainger, who shared their expertise on automating MongoDB provisioning within Grainger’s Cloud Platform.

Attendees gained valuable insights into cloud-native technology, platform engineering, and MongoDB best practices while enjoying networking opportunities. The Bengaluru MongoDB User Group :india: and BangPyPers joined forces on November 23, 2024, for an enriching meetup at MongoDB Bangalore. Hosted by Darshan Jayarama, the event featured talks by experts like Indivar Mishra on Q Learning with Gymnasium, Babu Srinivasan on generative AI with Python, and Abhik Sarkar on Python Wheels. Attendees explored the synergy between Python and MongoDB, participated in Q&A sessions, and enjoyed networking with fellow tech enthusiasts. This collaborative event highlighted the Bengaluru tech community, leaving attendees inspired and eager for more!

The MongoDB User Group Chennai :india: hosted a meetup on November 23, 2024, at Contentstack Chennai Office, featuring sessions by Vivekanandan Sakthivelu (Toyota Connected India) on indexing and Ankireddy Polu (Contentstack) on chaos engineering. Attendees enjoyed lightning talks, fun activities, and networking over lunch. Special thanks to MUG Leaders Rishi, Ijas, and Jeyraj, along with partners like JSLovers, JetBrains, and OpenLLM Community, for making this event a success!

The #8 Kuala Lumpur MongoDB User Group Meetup, held on November 25, 2024, at AWS Malaysia, brought the local tech community together for a hands-on workshop and insightful sessions. The event, hosted by Lai Kai Yong, featured two standout talks. (Lai Kai Yong) Vandyck from Farmz Asia led a comprehensive Relational Migrator workshop, showcasing how to efficiently migrate from RDBMS to MongoDB using the Relational Migrator Tool. Following this, Alex Kew delivered a deep dive into Telco Billing Systems and MongoDB Applications, offering real-world insights into MongoDB’s flexibility and scalability in telecom.

Kuala Lumpur MUG

The Auckland MongoDB User Group hosted a session on November 28, 2024, at Microsoft’s Viaduct office. The evening featured compelling talks by Johan Strydom, Principal Architect at Foodstuffs North Island, and Adam Holt, founder and CTO, who shared solutions for managing event streaming challenges. Attendees gained valuable insights into filtering, categorizing, and enriching events for downstream systems. The event wrapped up with interactive networking, a fun Kahoot session, and delicious food and drinks.

The MongoDB User Group Kuala Lumpur :malaysia: partnered with GDG Cloud KL DevFest 2024, hosting a workshop on building RAG with MongoDB and Gemini by Vandyck from Farmz Asia. Held at the Asia School of Business, the event saw an impressive 303 attendees, with over 150 participants actively engaging in the workshop despite parallel sessions. MUG Leader Lai Kai Yong conducted a hands-on session, guiding participants through building retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions with MongoDB and Gemini to tackle real-world developer challenges. The workshop showcased MongoDB’s advanced capabilities and left attendees inspired to innovate. Huge thanks to GDG Cloud KL for the collaboration and all participants for making it a memorable experience!

Kuala Lumpur MUG

The Mumbai MongoDB User Group :india: gathered on November 30, 2024, at ITM Andheri for an exciting event focused on MongoDB Change Streams and real-time streaming. Hosted by Nilesh Shinde (Tech Consultant, Deloitte), the meetup featured engaging talks by Amandeep Singh Reen (Team Lead, Expleo) on tracking changes with MongoDB Change Streams and Susmit Vengurlekar (Senior Data Scientist, Xcellen) on leveraging MongoDB for real-time streaming. Attendees enjoyed a fun MongoDB quiz, networking, and a delicious lunch. The sold-out event was a testament to the thriving MongoDB community in Mumbai, fostering learning, collaboration, and connections!
