What is columnar index?

Hi Community,

I have a question about the columnar index feature. Can anyone explain what it is and how to create one? How does it benefit aggregation queries? Specifically, does it reduce execution time when performing the $group stage on large datasets?

I have read this term in MongoDB in its product section, but currently I am unable to fetch the link columnar store index. (Actual name of the product that I read at the website)

I believe this was a Preview feature of Atlas Data Lake that is no-longer available.
